NORWAY — Sydney Doolittle, a yoga instructor and personal trainer from Naples, will present a program about Ayurveda, Thursday, April 13, 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Norway Memorial Library, 258 Main Street, Norway.
Ayurveda is a 5,000-year-old system of alternative medicine with roots in ancient India and deep ties in yoga. Ayurveda is a Sanskrit word meaning, “the science of life’ and it is the oldest practiced healthcare system in the world. It is based on the idea that disease and suffering are caused by imbalances and stressors in the mind and body.
In this free talk, Sydney Doolittle will discuss the basics of this holistic health field and how the Ayurvedic approach treats each unique individual using diet, lifestyle, and five-sense therapies to bring a person back into balance. The goal of Ayurveda is to teach people how to reach optimal health through a deeper understanding of themselves and the world around them.
When not studying Ayurveda and yoga, weight lifting, or playing in the mountains, Sydney leads six-day hiking, biking, and yoga retreats for Backroads and Women’s Quest. She has been a trip leader for kids and adults for over ten years; loving to bring people of all ages outdoors to explore, pursue meaningful active adventures, and enjoy the natural world.
