POLAND — The Select Board on Wednesday night signed the warrant for the June 13 annual Town Meeting.
The 23 articles include $8.94 million for the municipal budget. It is $587,000 more than this fiscal year’s $8.3 million.
The $8.94 million is offset by $3.03 million in revenue from such sources as state allocation, fees and excise taxes.
The net amount to be raised by property taxes is $5.8 million, which reflects a $279,000 increase — 5.01% — over the current fiscal year, which ends June 30.
An article to bond an additional $550,000 to expand the Ricker Memorial Library will also be on the ballot.
In April 2022, voters passed an $850,000 bond to fund the expansion, but costs for a heating and cooling system, which has to be installed according to code, dictated the increase.
This is the only spending article the Budget Committee does not recommend.
Deputy Town Manager Nikki Pratt said the town conducted an informal poll asking if the additional $550,000 should be included on the municipal ballot. The tally was 81 in favor and 47 against.
In other business, the Select Board approved the bid of $25,125 for a new trash compactor submitted by Atlantic Recycling Equipment of Rollinsford, NH. Atlantic Recycling’s bid was the lowest of five offers.
The Select Board also awarded a beer and wine license to Poland Provisions, a café and general store at 1220 Maine St. owned and operated by Charles and Sheila Foley.
