NEW YORK — Aaron Judge hit a pair of two-run homers, Anthony Volpe sparked the Yankees by breaking Joe DiMaggio’s team record for consecutive stolen bases at the start of a career and New York overcame a six-run deficit for a 9-8 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday.

Rays ace Shane McClanahan failed to hold a 6-0, fifth-inning lead, six days after Yankees ace Gerrit Cole squandered a 6-0, fifth-inning advantage in an 8-7, 10-inning loss at Tampa Bay.

In a matchup of All-Star starters, Yandy Díaz hit his first career grand slam in a five-run fifth against Nestor Cortes, the start of a stretch in which 22 of 37 batters reached in a 2 1/2-inning span.

Judge, wearing pink spikes for Mother’s Day weekend, found his stroke following an injured list stint caused by a sore hip. His homers were his first since April 19 and gave him his 29th career multihomer game.

Kyle Higashioka and Judge chased McClanahan with two-run homers in the bottom of the fifth, the first of consecutive innings in which the Yankees batted around.

Volpe reached on a bunt single to the left side off Ryan Thompson (1-1) starting the sixth, stole second and third, then sped home on the next pitch when Thompson’s slider was way outside and eluded catcher Francisco Mejía. Volpe is 13 for 13 in steal attempts, one more than DiMaggio from the start of his career until he was caught at home by Boston on Sept. 25, 1938, as part of a double-steal attempt with Lou Gehrig.

Gleyber Torres walked and Judge drove a slider 439 feet into the left-field second deck for his eighth homer this season and a 7-6 lead.

Orlando Cabrera, who entered as a pinch hitter in the fifth, added a two-run single against Javy Guerra on a grounder to right that just eluded diving second baseman Taylor Walls.

MARINERS 5, TIGERS 0: Seattle rookie right-hander Bryce Miller shut down the Tigers  for seven innings in a victory in Detroit that pushed the Mariners above .500 for the first time since they won on Opening Day.

Miller (2-0) allowed just three hits, two in the first inning, and struck out three while walking none. In three starts, Miller has given up just one run on seven hits while walking one and striking out 18 in 19 innings.

Miller is the second Seattle pitcher with a sub-1.00 ERA (0.47) through his first three career starts. Félix Hernández (0.86) in 2005 is the other.

RANGERS 5, ATHLETICS 0: Jon Gray took a no-hitter into the seventh and finished with eight scoreless innings, Nathaniel Lowe homered to extend his hitting streak to 12 games, and Texas won in Oakland, California.

Ezequiel Duran also connected on a two-run homer in the ninth for the AL West-leading Rangers, who are 24-15 for their best mark through 39 games since going 25-14 in 2013.

Gray (3-1) was magnificent despite another small crowd of 8,230 at the Coliseum. The 31-year-old right-hander retired 20 of the first 22 batters he faced and worked around a pair of walks while dominating the worst team in baseball.

Gray set down the first two batters in the seventh before the light-hitting Jace Peterson slapped a single to right for the A’s first hit. Peterson was later thrown out sliding into home trying to score on a relay throw from second baseman Marcus Semien following Ramón Laureano’s double.

Erik Swanson (2-1) got five outs for the win and Jordan Romano earned his 10th save in 12 chances.

TWINS 11, CUBS 1: Alex Kirilloff hit two of Minnesota’s season-high five home runs to lead the Twins to a win at home.

Joey Gallo, Jorge Polanco and Carlos Correa also homered for the Twins, who gave plenty of run support to Joe Ryan (6-1). Ryan struck out 10 in six scoreless innings, including striking out the side in the sixth.

NATIONAL LEAGUE

REDS 6, MARLINS 5: Jake Fraley hit his third homer in two days as Cincinnati beat Sandy Alcantara and the Marlins in Miami.

Henry Ramos had two hits, including a go-ahead RBI double off Alcantara in the eighth. Marlins center fielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. exited with a lower right leg injury after he collided with the wall attempting to catch Ramos’ drive.

Alcantara (1-4) squandered two leads and his ERA increased to 4.91. The NL Cy Young Award winner issued a leadoff walk to Jonathan India in the eighth. India then stole second before Fraley’s single tied it at 4-all.

NOTES

TWINS: Minnesota placed outfielder Max Kepler on the 10-day injured list because of a left hamstring strain. Outfielder Trevor Larnach was recalled from Triple-A St. Paul to take Kepler’s place on the roster.

Kepler left Thursday’s game with what was called a cramp. He pinch hit in Friday’s series opener against the Cubs.

Kepler is batting .212 with six home runs and 14 RBI in 28 games this season.

WHITE SOX: Chicago placed infielder Elvis Andrus on the 10-day injured list with a strained left oblique.

Andrus, 34, got hurt during his final at-bat in the eighth inning of Friday night’s 5-1 loss to Houston. He is batting .201 with a homer and 13 RBIs in 39 games this season.
