The New York Yankees cut Aaron Hicks and owe the struggling outfielder about $27.6 million from more than 2 1/2 seasons remaining in a $70 million, seven-year contract.

Hicks was designated for assignment to make room for outfielder Greg Allen, acquired in a trade with Boston on Friday. The 33-year-old was batting .188 with a homer and five RBI in 28 games this season.

The Red Sox traded Allen for 18-year-old minor-league pitcher Diego Hernandez and cash considerations.

Allen, 30, has played 282 major-league games for four clubs since debuting with Cleveland in 2017, but he’s been in Triple-A Worcester this season. Allen joined the Red Sox in January as a minor-league free agent. He didn’t make the Opening Day roster after hitting .200 in 18 spring training games.

In 37 games with Worcester, he hit .250 with two homers, 15 RBI and 23 stolen bases in 23 tries.

The Red Sox acquired Hernández, a righty from Mexico who went 4-2 with a 2.10 ERA in 12 outings (five starts) in the Dominican Summer League in 2022. He struck out 48 and walked 14 in 34 1/3 innings. Opponents batted .188 against him.

New York initially signed Hernández as an amateur international free agent Jan. 15, 2022. He’s listed a 6-foot, 154 pounds and will turn 19 in August.

DODGERS: Los Angeles placed left-hander Julio Urías on the 15-day injured list retroactive to Thursday because of a strained left hamstring and recalled RHP Wander Suero from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Urias is 5-4 with a 4.39 ERA in 10 starts this season after going 17-7 last season with a National League-leading 2.31 ERA. He led the NL with 20 wins in 2021.

TWINS: Minnesota placed second baseman Jorge Polanco on the injured list Saturday. He was put on the 10-day IL retroactive to Thursday because of a strained left hamstring. He is hitting .284 (27 for 95) with four home runs, seven doubles and 14 RBIs in in 23 games.

This is the second time this season Polanco is missing time because of a left leg injury. He missed the first 19 games of the season because of inflammation in his left knee.
