Dewey A. Robinson
RUMFORD – Dewey A. Robinson passed away at the age of 84, on June 22, 2023 at his home in Rumford with his family at his side.
Dewey was born in Otego, New York to LeRoy B. Robinson and Beatrice C. (Schloss) Robinson. He was a 1957 high school graduate of Greene Central School in Greene, N.Y. He enlisted into the Air Force in 1958, where he served as an Air Policeman with the 49th Air Police SQ, in Germany. While stationed overseas, he participated in several pistol matches earning awards for his outstanding marksmanship. He was released from active duty in 1962. He continued to serve as an active reservist before being honorably discharged in 1964.
He then moved to New York City in search of employment opportunities, eventually finding a job as an insurance investigator with Retail Credit. While bunking with cousin, David Goodrich, he made quite an impression on Sonya Pulcifur who lived in the same apartment building. They married in October of 1963, enjoying several years of their married life in the city.
After starting a family in 1966, they decided to move to Sonya’s native State of Maine to raise their expanding family. As a self-taught carpenter, he spent many hours building the family home while employed by the town of Rumford as a police officer. Always wanting to be active, he enjoyed various past times including bird hunting with the family dogs, rockhounding in the surrounding countryside, woodworking, gardening, cooking, and baking.
He was employed with the Rumford Police Department for 26 years, the last 13 years of which he served as chief of police, retiring in 1994. Free from the demands of his employment, he had the opportunity to further explore his many hobbies and interests. He used his investigative skills to become an avid genealogist, often traveling back to New York and other states to research family history.
He was predeceased by his parents, a brother Dale Robinson, and his wife Sonya. He is survived by his three daughters: Victoria, Karen, and Jill; two grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Friends and family are invited to share memories with the family at http://www.meaderandson.com.
At Dewey’s request there will be no funeral. Arrangements are under the direction of the Meader & Son Funeral Home 3 Franklin St., Rumford.
