ANDOVER — A woman and her three dogs were rescued Monday morning from a vehicle stranded in floodwaters on Elm Street following nearly 6 inches of rain overnight that washed out roads and bridges.

Fire Chief Jim Adler said crews found a vehicle stalled out in 18 to 24 inches of water shortly after 7 a.m.

“She had three dogs with her,” Adler said. “Because of that, it did make the rescue difficult.”

Fire and Rescue crews were assisted by Medcare Ambulance and had a Rumford Fire Rescue boat on standby.

Adler said a bridge on Wyman Hill Road was also washed out, along with a section of that road and Littlehale Road.

He cautioned residents not to trust flooded roads.
