Thomas L. Goodwin

LEWISTON – Thomas L. Goodwin, 81, of Lewiston, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2023, at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. Born in Brewer on Nov. 4, 1941, he was the son of Howard and Nancy Colcord Goodwin.

After graduating from Brewer High School, Tom continued his education by earning a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Maine, and a Juris Doctor from the University of Maine School of Law. He was admitted to the Maine State Bar Association in 1976. Tom had a long and distinguished legal career, including years working for the Maine Attorney General’s Office where he handled several high-profile homicide prosecutions.

Tom acquired a musical appreciation early in life, played piano in a band while he was in college, and later would on occasion see a piano and sit down to play to the delight of those in the room even after years of not playing. As a teen he made the trip to New York City more than once to visit jazz bars where he saw some of the greats perform. He once had an extensive collection of jazz and classical albums that he would listen to with anyone who wished. Tom was an accomplished tournament bridge player—ACBL life master number 8621—and was active in bridge administration in New England for many years with Rosemarie who he met through a mutual bridge playing friend. Perhaps his favorite bridge experience was winning the open pairs with Rosemarie at the Bermuda Regional in back-to-back years. In his later years, Tom was an active member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.

He is survived by his loving wife Rosemarie (née Levesque) of Lewiston; his brother, Browne Goodwin of Bath; his children Timothy Goodwin of Scarborough, Pamela Goodwin and significant other Theodore A. Lane Jr. of Dedham, Debra Souther and husband James of Attleboro, Mass., David Hall and wife Amy of Sanbornton, N.H.; six grandchildren, Zoe and Adam Goodwin, Dean Day, Ryan and Richard Crocker, and Tracey Wright; seven great-grandchildren; and his two kitties Boo and Mini who were his comfort and joy.
