Hannelore “Hanna” Dumont

MECHANIC FALLS – Hannelore “Hanna” Dumont, 89, of Mechanic Falls, passed away Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at D’Youville Pavillion surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Worms, Germany, Oct. 1, 1933 to Karl Walter and Charlotte (Machmer) Walter.

Hanna came to the United States in 1957, on a ship to New York City, N.Y. Her late husband Joseph, who was in the army, stationed in Germany, was introduced to Hanna by her brother. They settled in Maine, Joseph’s home state. Growing up in Germany, she had a tough life, making her the woman she became today, strong and resilient. She continued to mow her own lawn and shovel her own walkway, well into her 80s.

Having never owned a driver’s license, she loved going out shopping and going out to lunch with her daughters. She especially liked taking trips with her family to Germany, Mexico, Texas and Massachusetts, but her favorite thing in life was to please her family and friends. She was known for her delicious chicken stew, potato salad, potato pancakes, homemade beans and beer cake. And it wasn’t unusual for her to call you to tell you to come and eat with her.

She was a kind and gentle person, who always showed unconditional love to all her children, and grandchildren. Her main purpose to her children was that they were loved, fed well and dressed perfectly growing up.

She had a strong faith in the Lord and attended Our Lady of Ransom Church in Mechanic Falls.

Hanna was predeceased by her late husband, Joseph in 1996; her sister, Karin Carter of Texas, sister, Renate Ross of Germany, her brother, Horst Walter of Germany and her sister, Waltraud Stutz of Germany. She was also predeceased by her grandson, Scott Tiner in 2014.

She is survived by her nine children, Klaus Walter and his wife Hilde of Germany, Volker Walter of Germany, Harry Dumont and his wife Atoka of Biddeford, Stanley Dumont and his wife Carole of Greene, Monica Ouellette and husband Gerard of Poland, Linda Tiner and her husband Al Richard of Hebron, Anthony Dumont and his wife Laurie of Monmouth, Billy Dumont of Greene and Norma Marquis and her husband Normand of Lewiston. She is also survived by a brother, Karl Heinz Walter and sister, Gabrielle Fountain of Germany; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her two dearest friends, Mona Dunn of Mechanic Falls and Delores Cormier of Minot.

The family would like to thank the aids and nurses on 2 West and 3 West at D’youville Pavilion for their gentle and compassionate care, especially PA Rhonda, Heidi, Karina, Deb, Rebecca, Ellmarie, Chelsea, Sam and Dr. Clinton
