Gary Allyn Baker

LEWISTON – Gary Allyn Baker, 65, died peacefully Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at Central Maine Medical Center following a long illness.

Gary was born on October 17, 1957 in Chillicothe, Ohio to Charles L Baker and Patricia L (Brown) Baker. He graduated from Chillicothe High School in 1976, holding the record in pole vaulting for several years. He eventually moved to Florida where he met and married Robyn Dumais on October 8, 1988. Gary worked as a vendor for many years for various companies including Borden Milk and home delivery water companies in Florida and then continued working for Crystal Spring and Glenrock Spring water companies on the move to Maine, where Robyn was born and raised, until he became disabled. Gary loved to play the drums, picking it up by himself as a youngster and played throughout his years sitting in with different bands on open mic nights. He loved roller skating, did some dance with a partner as a teenager and kept skating throughout the years. He still has the skates his parents bought him, and they were one of his most treasured possessions.

Gary was an avid – to say the least – fan of The Ohio State Buckeye football team and the Boston Red Sox watching them daily win or lose. He loved the old Westerns like Gunsmoke and anything with John Wayne. Those that knew him well, knew of his love for tennis shoes, boasting often about his collection and explaining he will wear them all someday. Even though he couldn’t eat much, he loved his wife’s cooking stating daily “OMG, is there anything you can’t cook?”

Gary is survived by his wife Robyn of 34 years, son and daughter-in-law Jason and Tiffany Baker, daughter and son-in-law Nikki and Brandon Sims-Clark, daughter and son-in-law Samantha and William Lang. Granddaughters Abaigeal Sims-Clark, Lily Baker, Aingeal Sims-Clark, Harlem Kemper, and Charlotte “Charlie” Lang. Brothers Terry and wife Shelly Baker, Marty and wife Miriam Baker, aunt and uncle Sally and Oscar Urhig, aunt Kathleen Brown, several cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Also surviving is his faithful companion, Gus, 12-year-old mini Schnauzer whom he loved dearly. A special thank you to Kirsten Haas, PA and Emily Tillson, PA of Central Maine Heart Associates whom he called his angels for taking such good care of him. Messages of condolence may be sent to: http://www.finleyfuneralhome.com.

As per Gary’s wishes, there will be no services.

Arrangements by FINLEY FUNERAL HOME, 15 Church Street, Livermore Falls, Maine.

Donations could also be made to Androscoggin Home Healthcare and Hospice, 15 Strawberry Avenue, Lewiston, Maine 04240, which is near and dear to Gary and Robyn.
