Denise F. Schreiber

LEWISTON – Denise F. Schreiber of Lewiston was taken to her final home at the age of 91. Even though a thunder and lightning storm was raging outside, she died peacefully at her earthly home after a long illness on July 15, 2023.

Denise was born in Lewiston on Sept. 25, 1931, the daughter of Joseph Jr and Antionette Mailhot (Perreault). She graduated from Lewiston High School in 1950. In October 1951, she enlisted in the Women’s Army Corps and was stationed at Fort Lee, Va. There she met her future husband, John J. Schreiber. They married February 14, 1953, and Denise joined her husband in his military career. They were stationed at many places where she always took great care to make a home for her husband and five children.

When retirement came, they settled back in Lewiston. She loved working with her fabric making quilts and wall hangings and was a member of the Classic Quilters. When not in front of her sewing machine, she enjoyed doing arts and crafts, going to and holding garage sales, and going geocaching with her daughter, Cathleen. She also enjoyed growing her flowers and vegetables, baking, doing jigsaw puzzles and walking her dog, Jenna.

She was predeceased by her loving husband after 67 years of marriage, and her daughter, Patricia Schreiber and her daughter-in-law, Monique Schreiber. She leaves behind her son, Michael and wife, Karen, of Wisconsin; her son John and wife, Faye, from Lewiston; her daughter, Denise Begin and husband, Ronald, of Lewiston; and her daughter, Cathleen Schreiber of Lewiston, along with 6 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Also leaving behind her brother Ray Mailhot, and her sisters Colombe Lavaillere and Connie Labbay.

We want to thank all those who cared for our mother especially Jennifer, Karen and Marie of Elite Care.

The family invites you to a time of visitation at Pinette Dillingham and Lynch Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 305 Alfred Plourde Parkway on Sunday, July 23, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 24th at Holy Family Church, Sabattus St, Lewiston at 11:00am.
