HEBRON — “A mysterious painting hidden away in an old farmhouse near Hebron turns out to be the work of an internationally recognized artist, Mary Helen Carlisle. Free spirit and gifted painter, Ms. Carlisle studied in France, worked and traveled alone in England, The United States, and Mexico, and eventually established a studio in New York City, where she died at age 55, almost a hundred years ago. A slideshow lecture, given by Sharon H. Garvey, will explore her independent, colorful life and artworks, with some analysis of her painting technique. Speculation about how one of her paintings ended up in rural Maine will introduce the audience to another independent, enterprising woman––Mary North, founder of one of the early camps for girls, on nearby Thompson Lake.” The program will be presented Tuesday, August 22 at 7 p.m. at the Hebron Academy Treat Science Lecture Hall.
