Auburn’s government cost to operate will continue to increase, probably at a rapid rate. If private sector economic development is retarded, or even stopped, city-provided services will have to be curtailed.
Our property tax rate already is one of the highest in Maine. So, voters might ask candidates “What do you propose we do about our financial plan? Maximize growth? Cut services? Increase the property tax rate?”
I suggest we listen carefully to their plans. The lake is important and will be protected if the northern feeder streams are brought under control. But the management of the other 91% of Auburn is the 900-pound gorilla in the room that we are not hearing very much about.
City governance is much more complicated than making statements to the mayor and council every couple weeks. A vote for Jason Levesque is a vote for experience and proven results.
People should think about it.
