Lionel R. Castonguay

LEWISTON – Lionel R. Castonguay, 96, a resident of Livermore, passed away, Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2023, at CMMC in Lewiston. He was born Jan. 16, 1927, in Jay, the son of Charles and Eva (L’Italien) Castonguay. He attended schools in Jay and Livermore.

On May 6, 1961, he married the love of his life, Louise Veilleux, at St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay. Lionel spent most of his life working on his family’s farm. He also worked for a time as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service. He served on the Road Committee for the town of Livermore and on the Pastoral Committee at St. Rose of Lima. Lionel was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a communicate of St. Rose of Lima Church.

Lionel was a man of strong faith with a special devotion to our Blessed Mother. Lionel enjoyed music, gardening, watching YouTube, and riding his Kubota around the farm.

Lionel is survived by his wife of 62 years, Louise; three daughters, Jenille, Carmen, and Ida Dubois (David), four sons, Robert, Leo (Laurie), Gerald (Tara), and Arthur and his partner Shawn Giguere, son-in-law, Tom Gould; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; extended family, Tom Wing, Chris Hart, and Linda Parlin; his sister, Laurette Bilodeau; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; daughter, Diane Gould; five brothers, Maurice, Arthur, Laurence, Alfred “Fat”, and Henry Castonguay, and four sisters, Jeanne D’Arc Castonguay, Eva Castonguay, Rosalie St. Pierre, and Eva Labonte.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m., Monday, Sept. 4  at St. Rose of Lima Church, 1 Church St., in Jay. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, 445 Park St., in Livermore Falls.
