LEWISTON — Police were searching Monday afternoon for Rossano Williams, 43, of Alton, Illinois, on assault charges, according to officials.

Williams is wanted on charges of gross sexual assault, aggravated assault and strangulation stemming from a weekend incident in Lewiston. He is known to drive a black 2011 Chevrolet Cruze with Illinois plates, according to a Lewiston police Facebook post.

Williams was arrested Sept. 17 on a charge of operating without a license. On Friday, he was arrested on charges of driving with a suspended license and violating conditions of release. On Saturday, he was arrested on charges of engaging a prostitute, operating without a license and violating conditions of release.

Lewiston Police Lt. Derrick St. Laurent said Williams posted $150 bail Saturday before the latest report was made to police.
