KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Travis Kelce has been in the spotlight the past few weeks thanks largely to his new relationship with Taylor Swift.

He’ll be in the spotlight this coming week because of his ankle.

The All-Pro tight end hurt it during the first half of the Kansas City Chiefs’ win over the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.

Kelce managed to return in the second half and had a couple of big catches down the stretch in the 27-20 victory, but the Chiefs now have a short week to get him healthy before they face the Denver Broncos on Thursday night.

“When you have any type of injury you have to go through and say, ‘OK, this is what we think is going to happen based off of Travis,’ or whoever the player is,” Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy said Monday.

“We listen to where we think things are, we have to put together what we think is going to happen and then have that contingency plan.”

The Chiefs (4-1) should have an idea of what that looks like.

Kelce had not missed a game to injury since his rookie season before the opener against Detroit, when a hyperextended knee sustained a couple of days earlier kept him out.

The Chiefs’ offense wasn’t the same, either, with Patrick Mahomes and the rest of the crew struggling much of the way in a 21-20 loss — their only one this season.

If Kelce is limited at all, Noah Gray and Blake Bell would get additional time at tight end. But the Chiefs also would look to their young wide receivers, including Rashee Rice, who started to shine during the win over the Vikings.

COLTS: The Indianapolis Colts know one thing about Anthony Richardson’s shoulder injury: It will keep him out of next weekend’s game at Jacksonville.

Everything else remains unclear.

One day after the rookie quarterback injured the AC joint in his right shoulder on an awkward 4-yard run against Tennessee, Coach Shane Steichen announced Gardner Minshew would make his second start of the season, this time against his former team.

JETS: Offensive lineman Alijah Vera-Tucker has a torn Achilles tendon that will sideline him for the rest of the season.

Coach Robert Saleh announced that an MRI revealed the nature of the injury, which occurred in the second quarter of New York’s 31-21 victory at Denver on Sunday. It’s the same field where Vera-Tucker suffered a season-ending torn triceps a year ago.

Vera-Tucker has been arguably the Jets’ best offensive lineman and their most versatile. He started the first two games at right guard before sliding over to right tackle. Vera-Tucker, a 2021 first-round draft pick out of USC, also has played left guard and left tackle during his brief NFL career.

BILLS: Already thin at the cornerback spot, Buffalo’s defense will be further depleted with starting linebacker Matt Milano and starting tackle DaQuan Jones out indefinitely because of injuries.

Coach Sean McDermott said Milano will require surgery to repair an injury to his lower right leg, and Jones will require surgery to repair an injured pectoral muscle. McDermott did not provide any further details on the severity of the injuries, and said it was too early to determine a timetable on how much time both players will be sidelined.

Both players were hurt in a 25-20 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in a game played at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.

BROWNS: Deshaun Watson’s bruised right shoulder remains a sore spot for the Cleveland quarterback and the Browns.

Watson didn’t practice Monday, and it’s not yet known if he’ll play Sunday against unbeaten San Francisco.

As his teammates returned from their bye week and practiced, Watson, who unexpectedly sat out the Oct. 1 game against Baltimore, stayed inside the team’s facility to continue rehab on an injury the Browns have downplayed.

Watson hurt his shoulder on a running play against Tennessee two weeks ago.

VIKINGS: A day after star receiver Justin Jefferson had to leave Sunday’s 27-20 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs because of a hamstring injury, the Minnesota Vikings were still evaluating the status of their leading receiver.

Jefferson left in the fourth quarter Sunday and wanted to return to the game, Minnesota Coach Kevin O’Connell said Monday, but the team chose to sit Jefferson to protect him.

“It probably wasn’t going to be possible, but he was trying to figure out a way,” O’Connell said.

Jefferson slipped on the turf while trying to make a cut on his route during a third down pass deep in Kansas City territory and limped slowly to the sideline after grabbing the back of his right leg.

O’Connell said the team is getting “a couple different opinions” on Jefferson’s injury.

GIANTS: QB Daniel Jones is feeling better a day after being forced to leave a game with a neck injury and Coach Brian Daboll is optimistic he will be able to play against the Bills in Buffalo.

Jones was hurt early in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s 31-16 loss to the Dolphins in Miami. He had X-rays after the game and he had an additional test on Monday. Daboll said he did not have those results.

Jones has been sacked 16 times in the past two games. He left the game after being sacked on a blindside hit by Andrew Van Ginkel.

In other injury news, Daboll said star running back Saquon Barkley is closer to returning than left tackle Andrew Thomas, who has missed the past four games with a hamstring injury. Barkley has missed the past three with a sprained right ankle.
