I just have been informed that the Lewiston Housing Authority has no plans for a homeless shelter in the works.
There has not been any information in the newspapers, even from any other agencies or Lewiston or Auburn civic leaders, about plans for a homeless shelter. I do not believe that the problem has disappeared in our area.
Portland has announced plans to house the homeless at one of its motels until May, funded by that city’s Housing Authority. Have the leaders in our communities lost compassion for the less fortunate?
Just because previous plans were not approved does not mean they should give up on revising their plans that could pass muster. Have our leaders loss the art of compromise?
I hope someone among our elected officials come up with a homeless shelter program for the Lewiston and Auburn communities.
