The Sun Journal reported in 2022 that Lewiston City Councilors Lee Clement and Rick LaChapelle secretly drafted a racist resolution, then planned to suspend council rules and vote it through.

The resolution was designed to keep Lewiston schools from teaching critical race theory, a graduate-level law school course. Critical race isn’t taught to K-12 anywhere on Earth.

Recently, with a clear appearance of impropriety, Councilors LaChapelle, Bob McCarthy, Larry Pease and Clement met at The Cage, reportedly discussing city business in the same week there were allegations of open discussion of confidential school matters.

According to the SJ, in 2001 LaChapelle was fined three times for deliberately faking the identities of purchasers of six handguns from his pawn shop. LaChapelle’s belief that rules don’t apply to him make him unfit to represent anyone in Lewiston.

Rules matter. Integrity matters. Lewiston needs representatives with integrity.

These guys need to be voted out.

David Marquis, Lewiston
