Marjorie Hamel
CLERMONT, Fla. – Marjorie Mae Hamel passed away in Clermont Florida on Oct. 13, 2023, following an extended medical facility stay. She was born in Lake Worth, Florida, on March 31, 1937, and attended Lake Worth schools. She studied Nursing at Good Samaritan Hospital’s School of Nursing and graduated as a Registered Nurse (RN) in 1958. She met and married Felix Hamel in 1959 and had three children prior to moving to Maine in 1964, where they raised their family in Wales on a little family farm with goats, chickens, a horse, gardens, and occasional beef critters and pigs. She worked as a RN in Lewiston Maine hospitals most of her career. She was licensed as a Registered Nurse through 2022, she did this in the event she was in a situation where she could help someone in distress before an ambulance or MTs could arrive. She was an excellent cook and has passed down countless recipes for canning, baking, and amazing entrees. Her children’s teachers and bus drivers looked forward to her Christmas gifts of Carrot Bread and Chocolate-Chocolate-Chocolate Cake. She moved back to Florida and settled in Clermont in 2005 in the Emerald Lakes 55 and over community. She had a life-long passion for genealogy and followed her family roots and those of many others back as far as William the Conqueror. She was a member of the Past Finders of Lake County Genealogical Society and volunteered on Wednesday mornings in the Cooper Memorial Library’s genealogy room. She was also an active member of the Tomoka Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). Starting during the COVID years, she began thanking everyone for what they did when she was being served or checking out at an establishment. She lived her entire life with that positive attitude.
She was predeceased by her husband Felix and her son Duane Hamel and is survived by her son Felix (Rocky) Hamel, daughter Lori Blier and her husband Paul, her grandchildren Heath Blier and his wife Rachel, Ilea Blier and her children Wyatt and Duane, Nicholas Hamel and his wife Melissa and their children William and Andrew, Ashley Lynne and her daughter Leah, Renae Hamel, and Brianna Deschaine and her husband Garrett and their children Aspen and Autumn.
A Remembrance Gathering will be scheduled at her daughter’s home in Wales in the spring of next year where her ashes will be spread across the family property and placed in a wooden box that will be buried beneath a tree that will be planted in her honor.
