Noreen “Reenie” M. (York) Cummings

LIVERMORE FALLS – Noreen “Reenie” M. (York) Cummings, 89, a resident of East Livermore, Maine, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2023, at Brentwood Rehab & Nursing Home in Yarmouth, surrounded by her family. She was born Oct. 4, 1934, in Wilton, the daughter of Richard York, Sr. and Helen (Buchanan) York.

Noreen was a 1953 graduate of Wilton Academy and from Maine Medical School of Nursing in 1956. She worked as a registered nurse at the old Franklin Memorial Hospital following her graduation.

On Feb. 14, 1960, at the First Baptist Church of Livermore Falls, she married the love of her life, George Cummings. They made their home and raised their seven children at their farm at Haines Corner Road. They enjoyed 58 years together before his passing in 2018. Noreen resumed her nursing career after their children were all in school. She worked as director of nursing at Pomeroy Hill Nursing Home and later returned to the new Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington. Noreen loved being a Registered Nurse, and was very proud of her Scottish Heritage. She was a member and Past President of the Wiltona Club, New Norland Grange in East Livermore, where she served as Lady Assistant Steward and Jr. Grange Leader.

Noreen loved going for nice long rides, antiquing, visiting libraries, fishing, and cooking for her family. Her most beloved memories were of the town of Wilton where she grew up and the great times on Walker Hill. She always said she would like to slide down it one more time. She will be remembered for her love and devotion to her family and home, she will be greatly missed by those who knew her.

She is survived by her daughters, Stacey C. Linehan and her husband Patrick of Oakland, Tara Lea Chabot of South Portland, and Jennifer Marie DePalo and her husband Jeff of Long Island, NY, her sons, William H. Cummings II of Livermore Falls, George W. Cummings, Jr. and wife Ann of Fleming Island, Fla., Jaye D. Cummings and his wife Jill of Chelsea and Dana M. Cummings of Livermore Falls: 23 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents, her husband, siblings, Maxine Swett, Richard “Buddy” York, Jr., and Ronald York.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 21 at The First Baptist Church, 25 Church Street, Livermore Falls, Maine. Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m., on Monday, Nov. 20 at FINLEY FUNERAL HOME, 15 Church Street, Livermore Falls, Maine. Interment Pleasant View Cemetery, 51 Fayette Road, Livermore Falls, Maine
