Weld Town Meeting is tomorrow Saturday, March 9, at 10 a.m. at the Town Hall. There will be coffee, water and snacks available before and during the meeting.

Don’t forget to set your clocks ahead Sunday night, especially your alarm clocks, as Daylight Savings Time begins. Spring is lurking just around the corner. Change the batteries in your smoke alarms as well.

Yesterday evening was the regular monthly recreation meeting from 5 – 8 p.m. in the multi-purpose room, they decided that the group once known as the “Extension”, which was affiliated with the Univ. of Maine, needed a name. Now that the affiliation no longer exists, they can put their energy into doing things for the “Town of Weld”.

It was probably decided at the meeting last night but since this article had to be in for print prior to the meeting I cannot tell you this week what the name is. But you can contact the Town Office if you need to contact the “group” before my article next week.

This group has been busy at work under the leadership of April Demers and they are going to concentrate on programs, etc. for the people of “Weld” and not be so involved with “state” programs. Anyone who is interested, please join us or if you have any ideas for programs for Weld, they’d love to hear them, or you can contact Weld Rec. at [email protected]

A reminder, that Dennis Cleasby has graciously agreed to offer art classes on Wednesdays from Noon-2 p.m., beginning March 20 through July 5 – drawing, charcoal, painting, and outdoor sketching – please contact Weld Rec at the above email if you’re interested to see if there are any openings and the cost for participating.

Is anyone interested in getting together at the Town Hall and playing Corn Hole? If so, let April know what date/time would work best for you at [email protected] and whether you have any corn hole game boards that can be used in the hall? They have a couple but there is room for two more.

The Weld Town Newsletter/Journal, to be published quarterly-hopefully 4 pages, is seeking a concise descriptive “name” for the publication. Tom Wheeler is designing their “logo” when they have a name and Liz Boyle will supply some photographic inspiration referencing Weld trees, deer, moose, mountains, blueberries, loons and the Lake – but they’re asking Tom to keep it simple. We’ll also try to feature some of Tom’s metal work and describe his creative endeavors.

They also stated what was needed for print material and asked that the townspeople submit some or any of the following:

What are your passions, skills and interests: create profiles of your family, neighbors and friends-your favorite family traditions-hobbies you do with family or friends-do you live in a historic house/home that has interesting features-what’s going on in town-write a short essay about your life in Weld-what are your projects-what are you learning-tell us about what you observe in the outdoors.

Submit your poetry/drawings/cartoons/black & white photos and include captions. Their dedicated email address is at [email protected] or drop it in the box at the door to the town office and note on the envelope – Attention: Weld Recreation Department.

The first issue will have a brief description of one of the oldest and least changed (exterior) houses in town, and highly visible. And once again the pasture and barn are in use, as the animals graze in the newly fenced hillside pasture.

The Weld Rec is also developing writing profiles for Weld residents and coordinating with Julie and Max Pratt about a piece we hope he’ll write about the trapper’s course he is taking from the State of Maine.

Also, there will be an article about baking sourdough and corn bread, and the roads here in town – which are State and which are Town owned and maintained and “Who” is responsible for their maintenance and upkeep.

Don’t forget next Saturday March 16, is the Easter Party/Spring Fling at the Town Hall from 3 – 8 p.m., starting with an egg hunt for the elementary age kids and games and crafts for everyone, as well as a “potluck” meal – so bring a casserole, salad, soup, cookies, or brownies to share if you haven’t already signed up. There will be an “open mic” and talent show then line dancing following the meal.

“The Franklin County Fiddlers” with instructor Steve Muise will once again be entertaining us with their wonderful fiddle music on Saturday, March 23, at 7 p.m.
