Lewiston firefighter Tommy Hunter adjusts a car seat Thursday while training to be a car seat installation technician at Lewiston Fire Department’s Station Four on North Temple Street. Hunter is one of 17 people who took the four classes to become a certified passenger safety technician, who will volunteer to make sure new parents have their car seat properly installed. Parents can stop by Station Four on the third Thursday of every month from 2-6 p.m. for help installing their car seat, said Erica Davis, Highway Safety Coordinator for the Maine Bureau of Highway Safety. About 75% to 80% of car seats are installed incorrectly, said June Turcotte, a certified passenger safety technician.
