AUBURN – John H. Frey, 84, of Auburn, went home to be with the Lord early on the morning of Thursday, May 16, 2024 at the Androscoggin Hospice House in Auburn after battling liver cancer.

John was born Oct. 21, 1939 in Winona, Minn., the son of Martin R. Frey and Josephine Janikowski Frey.

He proudly served in the US Navy from 1957-1970 and was honorably discharged with the rank of Chief Petty Officer. On Oct. 6, 1976, he married Margo Spugnardi in Auburn.

John worked for Tambrands (Proctor & Gamble) for 25 years as a Maintenance Superintendent retiring in 1997.

John enjoyed restoring his ’84 Fiero, hunting and fishing, and golf. He was a devoted sports fan and loved the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox. John was intrigued by technology and often purchased the latest of any gadget that piqued his interest.

John was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church in Auburn.

He was predeceased by his parents; and his sisters Patricia Frey and Suzanne Frey Tesmer. He was also predeceased by his wife of 27 years Margo L. Frey.

John is survived by his children, Brenda Holbrook (Barbara), Debbie Higgins, Donna Allen (Marc), John Frey (Sherri), and James Frey (Melise). Also survived by his stepchildren David Spugnardi, Keith Spugnardi, and Lisa Andersen. John also leaves behind many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

John also loved his beloved Japanese Chins, Hachiro and Delilah, who predeceased him.

There will be a graveside committal service at St. Peter’s Cemetery, 217 Switzerland Rd, Lewiston on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at 11 a.m. along with military honors.
