MINOT — Jeffrey Burt was sworn in as the town’s first full-time Fire-Rescue chief Monday night at the town office.

The Select Board chose Burt from a field of six applicants at its May 13 meeting.

The 28-year-old Rumford native said firefighting has been a passion since junior high school.

While attending Mountain Valley High School and the fire science courses at Region 9 School of Applied Technology in Mexico, Burt served in the Rumford, Roxbury and Andover fire departments.

He has a bachelor’s degree and is working on a masters degree in public administration.

Burt has also worked in the Raymond and Oxford fire and rescue departments.

Dean Campbell, outgoing chief of the 24 member all-volunteer Minot Fire and Rescue Department, was presented with a plaque for his many years of service to the town.
