DEAR SUN SPOTS: Pennies for a Cause is almost halfway to providing a shelter for a homeless veteran in Maine. The goal is $12,000 and we are almost at the $6,000 mark, thanks to your donations and your cans and bottles.
You can bring your cans and bottles to the MT Redemption Center on Lisbon Street across from the Chick-a-Dee of Lewiston restaurant. Tell them they are for “Pennies for a Cause”.
We’re hoping to provide a shelter for a homeless veteran in Maine before winter starts. Please call Pat Poulin at 212-9372 to pick up your bottles and cans or bring them to the MT Redemption Center yourself. Donations are also accepted. Call Pat regarding donations and where to mail them.
This is also a good way for schools to participate in community work and makes it a good challenge for our local high schools to see which school can collect the most before the end of the school year. Different organizations may want to collect their empties to donate as well. Thank you so much for caring. — Marguerite, Lewiston
ANSWER: I remember this effort from previous years and I’m glad you’re still doing it. I would love to hear from organizations and individuals who are participating as it would inspire others to do the same. By donating cash, cans and bottles, you can be part of providing a veteran in need with a comfortable, safe place to live.
