Meg Congro was announced Tuesday as the new varsity girls soccer at Gray-New Gloucester High School on the school’s athletic department social media accounts.

Congro was previously the eighth-grade girls soccer coach at Gray-New Gloucester Middle School, where she has been a special education teacher since 2022.
“Congro will bring a lot of energy to the girls soccer program and will build the strong relationships with the players,” the release posted on social media said.
Congro replaces Marcy Francoeur, who had coached the Patriots since 2019.
Congro was a three-sport athlete (soccer, ice hockey and softball) at Sandwich High School in Massachusetts, then played softball on scholarship at University of Rhode Island. Congro said in the hiring announcement that following her graduation from Rhode Island in 2015, she “continued to play in an adult women’s soccer league during the summers.”
She earned her Master’s degree in Special Education from Lesley University in 2021.
The release lauded Congro’s experiences both on and off the field.
“Having played collegiate softball at a high level, she has a desire to compete and win while understanding the importance of education-based athletics through her role as a teacher at GNG Middle School,” the release said.
Congro also has served as an assistant coach for Gray-NG’s varsity softball team.
Gray-New Gloucester went 29-41-2 under Francoeur and reached the postseason four out of four possible years (there were no playoffs in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic). In 2022, the Patriots made a surprise run to the Class B South semifinals as an 11th seed.
