Recent news has involved an issue in regard to Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito and his wife. It involves the display of a flag displayed on their property.
The flag is not that of this country, U.S.A., but rather one that dates back to the Revolutionary War and addresses an “Appeal to Heaven.” It has an all-white background and a large green pine tree as its only symbol. The “Appeal to Heaven” flag has been co-opted by Jan. 6 rioters and Christian nationalists as a symbol of pro-insurrection.
My issue is not about what it represents nor why a member of the Supreme Court is involved. I’ll leave that up to our elected leaders(?) in Washington. My concern is it appears to be very much like the current “suggested” flag being considered as a replacement to the existing Maine state flag.
I am not in favor of replacing our existing flag, which has represented our great state and we, its proud citizens, for over 100 years. It should not be treated like a license plate. Some things do not need to be changed, and our state flag is at the top of the list.
I hope this is ready by many and spread to many more.
Thanks for our free press. Another great tradition.
