Donald Trump filed 62 failed lawsuits alleging election fraud.
He fueled mistrust in our electoral system from the beginning of his campaigning. He instigated a violent insurrection to prevent the peaceful transfer of power for the first time in U.S. history. Mitch McConnell proclaimed him “practically and morally responsible.” A majority of the Senate voted to convict.
But many of the GOP have capitulated to the “cult of Trump” and echo his lies. It is disgusting that in this milieux, Sen. Susan Collins has the temerity to refer to Trump’s recent trial as being politically inappropriate after a jury convicted him of attempting to fraudulently influence the outcome of an election.
Furthermore, Alvin Bragg never pledged to prosecute Trump but to “follow the facts.”
The jury, acceptable to both the prosecution and defense, has spoken. The rule of law should be respected.
Shame on Sen. Collins for fueling dissension and mistrust.
