For the forty-eighth consecutive season, the Poland Spring House opened Thursday noon with luncheon promptly and as though it had never been closed — every department in complete order and the house looking like new.

50 Years Ago: 1974

A friendship of 26 years was renewed this week when William Palin arrived from Redding, California, to spend a few days vacationing in Maine with Mr. and Mrs. Harlan Harris, Crowley Junction Road, Lewiston. The two men were in the United States Air Force Band together during World War II and haven’t seen each other for 26 years. Palin is originally from Hawaii and now teaches music in Redding. Vacation plans include a scenic tour of the state plus the enjoyment of eating Maine lobsters.

25 Years Ago: 1999

Fifteen-year old Angela Cote won a car Monday in a lottery that Lewiston High School holds for students who have perfect attendance throughout the school year. Cotes was one of about 250 names entered in the drawing for the white 1994 Geo Metro with about 40,000 miles. Lee Auto Mall donated the car which is valued at $3,000, according to Mark Keene, the company’s used car manager.
