100 Years Ago: 1924

When the Lewiston police, Monday located the lumber stolen from the old building next to the St. Patrick church, at the rear of a Lewiston residence, Dr. C. K. Donnell, the owner of the lumber, refused to prosecute giving the guilty party one hour in which to return the stolen lumber. Needless to say that the party complied with orders.

50 Years Ago: 1974

What do you do when you’ve got a dog who likes to pretend he’s on a chain-gang and a rabbit who thinks he’s Mark Spitz?

Enjoy them both!

That’s the solution enthusiastically hit upon by the Robert W. Spencer family, whose personable pets provide the Summer-day antics at their Valview Drive home on the shore of Auburn’s Taylor Pond.

The rabbit’s name is “Cap’n Lester” and up until recently he made his home in a beat-up boat in the Spencers’ backyard, a handy spot for drying out between dips in the nearby pond.

The dog is “Bouncer,” a mixed-breed Labrador Retriever-German Shepherd who, in Mrs. Spencer’s words, “all of a sudden decided he wanted to play with a cement block, and he just got carried away.”

25 Years Ago: 1999

Auburn Mayor Lee Young presents a proclamation signed by herself and Mayor Kaleigh Tara of Lewiston, recognizing 1999 as the Year of Older Persons in the Twin Cities to Cecile Mathieu of Covenant 50.
