DEAR SUN SPOTS: Excelsior Grange in Poland will celebrate its 150th anniversary with community events July 13. The day will start with a community yard sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 446 Harris Hill Road.

Anyone wishing to reserve a spot should call 998-2301. The cost is $10. If it rains, the yard sale will move inside the Grange Hall.

There will also be activities for children during the yard sale, such as rock painting and yard games.
Do you make awesome whoopie pies? There will be a contest to determine the best maker of chocolate whoopie pies with white filling. There are two categories, one for adults and one for children under 13. Each winner will receive a $25 prize. Check the Excelsior Grange Facebook page for full contest rules. There will be a public supper from 5-6 p.m. The menu will be beans, hot dogs, American chop suey, cole slaw, bread, drinks and strawberry shortcake, all for $8.

Following the supper, there will be a contra dance from 7-9 p.m. There will be no charge, but donations are appreciated. The caller will be Hannah Chamberlain who has called at contra dances all over New England. Jessie and Greg Boardman will provide music. The Boardmans have performed all over New England and are involved with the Maine Fiddlers Camp. Greg teaches bowed strings to elementary school children, produces music events, assists in music for worship, and performs around the state from his family base in Lewiston.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: There will be free summer concerts every other Tuesday from 6:30-8 p.m. sponsored by the American Legion Post 112 at 169 King St. in Oxford. On July 9, we’ll host Ultimate Country 2, and on July 23 Ed Millet & Friends will entertain us.

In case of rain, the music will be inside. — Howie, Oxford

ANSWER: My recommendation is to go to all the summer concerts you can — they’re free and a great way to enjoy a beautiful summer night.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Nazarene Church at 184 Main St. in Lisbon Falls will have a Flea Market on Saturday, July 27, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
