Figures have been compiled by the Main Railroad and steamship officials and Maine Publicity Bureau and Maine Automobile association showing that on closest estimate and actual revenue, the total cash brought into Maine every year by summer tourists is $52,000,000.
50 Years Ago: 1974
The children of the Heathwood Lane-Hillmount Drive neighborhood of Lewiston held a benefit fair Tuesday afternoon, the proceeds going to the Muscular Dystrophy Association of America.
Chairman of the carnival, which was held at the Hillmount home of Donna Breton, was Susan Bouvier of 24 Hillmount Drive. She was assisted by her brother, Marc Bouvier, by Kelley O’Malley of Hillmount Drive, and Reynold Theberge and Nichole Bisson of Heathwood Lane.
Various games, magic tricks, concession stands, and a fortune teller claimed the attention of fair-goers. The children also sold used toys and books at the benefit, while some of the younger tots, dressed in carnival clown tradition, served as balloon venders.
