The Rangeley Region Guides’ and Sportsmen’s Association is pleased to announce its third Kids’ Fishing Derby will be held on July 6.  The event is held on our Kids’ Fishing Pond behind our clubhouse at 41Old Skiway Rd in Oquossoc.  This event has rapidly become one of our groups favorite events of the year.  Last year we had well over 100 kids participate.  We have been stocking the Kids’ Fishing Pond all spring.  Last year we had a really good success rate with lots of fish caught.  Nothing quite compares to hearing a child’s excitement echoing over the pond as they reel in a 10 incher!

This year, we’re trying out a weekend date, hoping that this will allow even more participation.  We fish in three age brackets with prizes awarded in each bracket.  Those ages 4-6 fish at 9:00AM, and adult assistance is encouraged.  Ages 7-9 start at 9:30, and can have some assistance.  Ages 10-15 start at 10:00, and are expected to operate independently.  Registration opens at 8:00AM, or throughout the morning for those in the later start times.  Pre-registration is not required.

As a reminder, you can bring your own gear, but equipment is available.  RRG&SA will be providing the bait.  Free food and snacks are available for the kids all morning long.  There will be prizes and drawings, up to our grand prize, a lifetime Maine Fishing License.
