DEAR SUN SPOTS: Do you have information about the Lewiston-Portland bus service that is supposed to start operating in early July?—Charlie, no town
ANSWER: The Maine Department of Transportation is introducing a new contracted service. RTW Management Inc. is to offer enhanced frequency of service between Auburn and Portland. More details are at www.maine.gov/tools/whatsnew/index.php?topic=DOT Press Releases&id=12803581&v=article2015.
The routes include multiple stops each day to the Portland Transportation Center.
Stay tuned. I will post more information as soon as I have it.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: We at the Pleasant Street Drop-in Center continue to be amazed and honored each week by the numerous community donations that assist us in providing for our unhoused neighbors. Our community’s ongoing support allows us to use our grant money to buy larger items, including survival gear, and to continue to provide more than 300 meals per week.
This week, our “store” is in need of the following: tampons and pads, toothpaste, shavers and shaving cream, men and women’s underwear (all sizes), Shaw’s white plastic grocery bags, snack and sandwich bags, bug spray and Epsom salts. Any donation, no matter the size, is truly appreciated. Thank you for doing this work with us.—Sue, no town
ANSWER: This amazing resource center for the unhoused is at 169 Pleasant St. in Auburn. Donation drop-off is from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesdays and 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays.
You can also refer to its Facebook page — www.facebook.com/groups/716529479663868 — to check each week on the center’s needs.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: Thank you for publishing my request about donations of items for the yard sale Aug. 3. I want to add that this event is part of Mechanic Falls Community Days.—Nancy, Mechanic Falls
ANSWER: Got it! Here is your original letter for those who may have missed last Friday’s Sun Spots:
The Anglican Church of the Transfiguration in Mechanic Falls is seeking donations for its yard sale, planned for Saturday, Aug. 3, at 64 Elm St.
This is a fantastic opportunity to get rid of items that you no longer need without having a yard sale at home. Items can be dropped off at the church Tuesday mornings or by appointment. (We are not accepting clothing at this time.)
For more information, please call Nancy at 207-689-7025.
