A Making Forests More Resilient walk and talk style presentation is set for 3-5 p.m. Friday, July 19, at the Tenmile River Demonstration Forest, located on the Hiram/Brownfield town line.
The event will be hosted by Oxford County Soil & Water Conservation District.
Sean Horan, climate smart agriculture and forestry professional with the Natural Resources Conservation Service and the UMaine Extension, plans to explore the intricate relationships between the species in the forests and discuss innovative strategies for mitigating the effects of climate change, pests and other threats.
Michele Windsor, program manager at Oxford County SWCD, plans to demonstrate some timber stand improvement practices currently in use at the demo forest and some ways that they are increasing biodiversity by planting native species.
This event is free, but participants are asked to register at oxfordcountyswcd.org/workshops.
