DEAR SUN SPOTS: You have been so helpful in the past. I hope this is not too great of an ask.
I live in the Bachelder Stetson Homestead on Quaker Ridge in Greene. I purchased this property from Henry Howe in 1972. I am applying for inclusion of the historic home on the National Registry of Historic Buildings, and I am seeking help with any personal information about the Stetson family who lived in this home from 1791 to 1928.
Bachelder Stetson built this home on property he received for his services in the Battle of Bennington in the Revolutionary War. Among his descendants were several educators in Maine schools and some Maine and national notables: William Wallace Stetson was superintendent of Auburn schools, then superintendent of Maine schools, in addition to writing several textbooks still used today. Reverend Herbert Lee Stetson was a minister and scholar, and Clement Stetson was the Alta, Maine Postmaster, Grand Master of Androscoggin Grange, then Master of the Maine State Grange.
I already have explored local historical societies, Granges, and government agencies, as well as The Stetson Kindred, but what I seek are personal photographs or other, nonpublished, historic materials pertaining to this home and the Stetson descendants who lived here that could be loaned to me for research.
Many local Stetson families had association with these descendants and may have information that I would greatly appreciate knowing about. I can be contacted at [email protected] or 207-946-5049. — Lew, Greene

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I sent in an item for Sun Spots publication two-three weeks ago and have not yet seen it. Are you simply overwhelmed and can’t get it in yet or was it forgotten? It was about books to donate about Africa travel and USA road trips. — Joanne, no town
ANSWER: Thank you for checking in. I rarely become overwhelmed or lose letters but it can happen. Your letter with my answer was published in Sun Spots on Wednesday, June 19. Here it is again for all who may have missed it:
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have some travel books to donate. About ten of them are about travel to Africa and two of them are about United States cross-country trips. They were all published in the early to mid-2000s.
Anyone interested may call me at 576-5444, or Ms. Sun Spots, perhaps you have ideas on where I could donate them. Auburn Public Library cannot use them at this time. — Joanne, no town
ANSWER: Hopefully another reader will contact you and enjoy them. If there are no takers, you could find some Little Free Libraries to stow them in, or you can donate them to another library, a thrift store such as Androscoggin Hospice Thrift Store at 245 Center St., Suite 2 in Auburn, or take them to Goodwill.
If you want to locate a Little Free Library in your community, go to https://littlefreelibrary.org/ and find the local map.
