POLAND — A revised $28.8 million budget for Regional School Unit 16 will go before voters Tuesday for discussion and a vote.
The districtwide meeting for Mechanic Falls, Minot and Poland residents will begin at 6 p.m. in the auditorium at Poland Regional High School. Registered voters will have the opportunity to ask questions and voice concerns before voting on each of the 20 articles.
The revised budget is $566,000 less than the initial $29.3 million proposed and was approved by the school board July 8.
Positions for two educational technicians, the district nurse, the administrative assistant to the superintendent and a K-12 technology coach were eliminated, and $113,000 was cut from the Capital Improvement Plan in the revised budget to get to $28.8 million.
According to figures provided by RSU 16, the estimated increase in property taxes, based on a $100,000 valuation, is $128 for Minot, $156 for Mechanic Falls and $197 for Poland.
The first budget failed to pass at the June 11 referendum by a vote of 913 no to 736 yes.
Whatever final figure is approved will go to voters as a single question July 30.
