“Music for Mavis” Tuesdays at the Gazebo music series presents country duo Kim Curry and Mike Preston from 6-7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 16, at the gazebo, at 98 Mathews Way, in Turner.
Well-loved throughout Maine and beyond, Mike and Kim met in 2014 and started performing together. In June of 2017, they started a duo with Mike playing acoustic and Kim playing bass covering new country, traditional country, rock, and blues, sharing their vocal talent individually as well as in sweet blended harmonies.
Curry is a talented singer, fronting The Nashville Express for 10 years playing every Friday and Saturday at Country Crossroads in Standish. She wrote and recorded a song, “Thinking of You,” and also won female vocalist and female entertainer for the state of Maine in the 70’s and 80’s. In 2016, she recorded in Nashville.
Preston, a talented singer and guitarist, was brought up in Limington and has spent 27 years devoted to music. Groomed by many famed musicians from Maine, he quickly gained success on the local level, opening shows for The Charlie Daniels Band, George Jones, Ricky Van Shelton and a list of other performers. He has released several recordings and has also earned many regional awards throughout his career — 10 years of which he lived and performed in Nashville.
The show will go on rain or shine. Bring a chair, a blanket, and a friend. We pass the hat to pay the musicians. Suggested donation $10.
