Durham Fire and Rescue Chief Robert Tripp said crews were sent to the 1600 block of Royalsborough Road, which is Route 136, at 4:58 p.m. for a vehicle crash. Crews discovered a Toyota minivan on its roof with seven children inside, some trying to get out. The driver was an adult family member, he said.

Tripp said three ambulances from Durham, Lisbon and Freeport transported one patient each to Maine Medical Center, all likely with minor injuries. Due to a language barrier, the remaining five passengers were also transported.

The Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash, Tripp said, but crews determined the van likely left the road and hit a telephone pole head-on before rolling over.

A stretch of the road was reduced to one lane for cleanup and investigation.
