PARIS — Paris Director Troy Ripley and Waterford Director Kitty Winship were reelected as Chair and Vice-Chair of Maine School Administrative District 17’s school board during the district’s Monday business meeting.

The two were the only ones nominated for their respective posts. Winship was not in attendance but had indicated to her colleagues via email that she would accept the post if nominated and elected.
Much of Monday’s meeting was spent reviewing and discussing SAD 17’s revised operating budget. A public hearing to validate the budget will be July 23, with a district-wide referendum vote on August 6.
The district is currently operating based on funding for the 2023-24 fiscal year.
In other business, directors approved second readings for district policies ADAA School District Commitment to Standards for Ethical and Responsible Behavior and IJOC School Volunteers. Neither policy was changed from their first reading. The board also approved the first reading of Policy IJCH Substance and Alcohol Use by Students.
They approved contracting with an auction company to dispose of surplus equipment not claimed by Oxford Hills Technical School or other district-based groups, at a cost of 10%
The board unanimously approved the appointment of Oxford Hills Middle School Assistant Principal Torrey Poland as Interim Principal for the 2024-25 school year. She replaces outgoing Principal Jessica McGreevy. Lisa Dunham of Oxford, who has previously served on SAD 17’s board as well as Maine Vocation Region 11’s board was unanimously confirmed to fill a vacated position on MVR#11 once again.
