An Auburn woman who was critically injured Saturday morning when the Toyota SUV she was driving crashed into a rock embankment near the fire station on School Street in Harrison is alive and expected to recover, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said on Sunday.
Debora McGowan, 58, was unconscious and not breathing when deputies and Harrison fire and rescue personnel responded to the crash around 10:15 a.m., according to the sheriff’s office.
The vehicle sustained significant front-end damage. First responders immediately initiated life-saving measures, and she was transported by ambulance to Bridgton Hospital in critical condition, the sheriff’s office said in a statement Saturday afternoon.
McGowan was transferred to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, where she was in serious condition Saturday evening, sheriff’s Capt. Kerry Joyce said.
Joyce confirmed on Sunday morning that McGowan is alive and expected to make a recovery.
The sheriff’s office is investigating the cause of the crash, which didn’t appear to include speed or alcohol, Joyce said.
