World Lung Cancer Day is observed every year on Aug. 1 to raise awareness about lung cancer, its prevention, treatment, and the challenges faced by patients and their families. The day serves as a global platform to highlight the importance of finding lung cancer early and treating it quickly to improve outcomes for those affected by this disease. It also aims to expose the false beliefs about lung cancer and promote understanding of its risk factors.
On Thursday, Aug. 1, Free ME from Lung Cancer, Maine Lung Cancer Coalition, healthcare providers, advocates, and communities come together to educate the public about the causes of lung cancer, such as smoking, secondhand smoke, environmental factors such as radon, and genetic tendency. Efforts are made to promote healthy lifestyle choices to lower the risk of lung cancer worldwide.
