KINGFIELD —The Kingfield Festival Days, held from July 18-21, celebrated another year of successful festivities, drawing large crowds to the small town. The festival featured a variety of activities, including a well-attended parade, live music, and a flag retirement ceremony. The festival kicked off with a crowded bingo game July 18.

Visitors filled the streets over the four day festival, exploring local stores, vendors, and food trucks. The sunny, warm weather provided a perfect backdrop for the festival, enhancing the enjoyment of all attendees.

The Grande Parade was a big success as always, with the theme of “Your Favorite Cartoon”. The top honors were awarded to Mike Lane Minions in first place, United Way Little Mermaids in second place, and Linwood Doble’s Bob the Builder in third place. Before the Grande Parade, there were several children’s parades: Power Wheels race, doll carriage parade, bike parade and pet parade.

In addition to the parades, festival-goers enjoyed music, bingo games, and a jail setup that was frequently filled. A dunk tank provided continuous entertainment, with volunteers taking plunges into the water. The Lane Farm petting zoo was a hit with families, offering an opportunity for children to interact with a variety of animals.

Over the weekend there was mud football and basketball tournaments as well as lawn mower races and foot races. There was juggling magician Mike Menes, water fun at Mill Pond with water toys and jousting and the American Legion set up a water fight.

Wade Browne, Chair of the Select Board, expressed his enthusiasm on Facebook: “What a weekend. If you didn’t make it to Kingfield Days, shame on you,” Browne wrote. “That committee once again did unreal things for everyone’s pleasure; countless volunteers and hours put in with fun had by all. Activities like water sports on Mill Pond, an awesome train, a parade, lawn mower racing, and a live band that was unreal. It takes a village to make this happen. Thank you all, the town appreciates you all and all that you do and can’t wait till next year.”

The festival featured a surf-and-turf dinner, organized under the big white tent at Skowhegan Savings Bank. The Kingfield American Legion hosted an ice cream social immediately following the dinner, adding to the family-friendly atmosphere with various games and activities.

A street dance with live music by Dirty McCurdy on Saturday night brought the community together, capping off a day filled with festivities. Other attractions throughout the weekend included art vendors, Stanley Steamers, and free admission to the Stanley Museum on Saturday.

Organizers and volunteers are already looking forward to making next year’s festival even more memorable.
