PARIS — Individuals who want to support food security in Oxford County now have a new resource to help them. University of Maine Cooperative Extension Master Gardener Volunteers have created a new list of Oxford County organizations that accept donations of fresh produce.
According to Feeding America, 13% of Mainers experience food insecurity. This means they lack access at times to enough food for an active and healthy life. One way to help fight food insecurity in your community is to donate fresh produce to local food security organizations.
“The intent of the directory is to help anyone with excess produce find a place in Oxford County to donate. We also hope this raises awareness of the need for more fresh produce by food security organizations in our community,” said Rebecca Long, Coordinator of Horticulture Training Programs for UMaine Extension.
