POLAND — Regional School Unit 16 voters will consider the district’s $28.8 million budget for the upcoming school year on Tuesday.
This is the second attempt by voters in the district’s towns of Poland, Mechanic Falls and Minot to pass the budget validation referendum.
After the first budget failed in June, by a vote of 913 to 736, school directors shaved over $556,000 from that $29.3 million budget to bring forward reduced costs.
School directors have met twice to consider changes to the failed budget and decided on the new $28.8 million figure on July 8.
Cuts in the revised budget include: Capital improvement plan, $113,000; ed tech positions at Poland Regional High School, $78,811; district nurse, $74,275; administrative assistant to the superintendent, $87,000; K-12 technology coach, $104,000; and assistant superintendent shifting to position of curriculum director, $23,761.
A districtwide meeting, in a town meeting format, attended by over 70 voters endorsed the new budget on July 16.
According to RSU 16 administrators, the estimated tax increase on a $100,000 property evaluation in Mechanic Falls will be $156, in Minot it will be $128, and $197 in Poland.
Polling stations in the three sending towns will be open Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
