Mahoosuc Land Trust’s fourth annual Monarch Festival on August 18 promises fun for all ages. Brewster Burns

BETHEL — Award-winning author Sy Montgomery is coming to Bethel. As part of Mahoosuc Land Trust’s 4th Annual Habitat For All Monarch Festival, Sy will be at the Gem Theater on Saturday, August 17. She will discuss her latest book, Of Time and Turtles, which recounts her experiences working at a hospital for sick, injured, and abandoned turtles and how land conservation protects these often critically endangered animals. On Aug. 18 will be staff from the Turtle Rescue League (TRL) and live turtle ambassadors.

To reserve your seat for this pay-what-you-can event, visit the Gem Theater website:  www.thegemtheater.com. Doors open at 5 p.m. for pizza and drinks (and a chance to meet Sy Montgomery and the staff of the TRL), followed by the presentation at 6 p.m.

The Habitat For All Monarch Festival continues from 12 to 4 p.m. on Sunday at Valentine Farm, 162 North Rd, Bethel. This year there will be more educational opportunities, from the Xerces Society to the ever popular “Bug Guy.” There will be presentations in the garden, guided bird walks, story time and plenty of kids’ activities.

We encourage you to follow us on Facebook or Instagram as we share more details about the event over the next several weeks. This has been a very popular event, so thank you so much for helping us spread the word!
