We had quite a few people correctly identify last week’s Mystery Photo of the monument in J. Eugene Boivin Park in Rumford that was commissioned by The Order of the Sons of Italy in Rumford. The monument, with 78 names of residents of Italian heritage, was dedicated in July of 2022 in the park behind the Rumford Information Center on Bridge Street in Rumford. The monument recognizes the contributions residents of Italian heritage have made to the area over the past 200 years or more. In a random drawing from all the entries, Andy Capponi of Lewiston was picked as the winner of a $25 Hannaford Supermarket gift card. When notified of winning the contest, Capponi told us his family name is on the monument and his grandmother was actually born on the ship bringing her parents over to the United States from Italy. His grandfather was a well-known mason in the Rumford area for many years.
