Clifford Lincoln Walker

POLAND – Clifford Lincoln Walker, 92, passed away at home (as he wished) on Aug. 1, 2024.

Clifford Walker was born Feb. 12, 1932, the son of Harvey and Reata (Marshall) Walker and had six siblings (one who died as a child).

He was raised in Poland and attended a one room schoolhouse (now the Busy Bees) and Mechanic Falls High School. He was drafted in 1951 while working at BE Cole in Norway. He served as Corporal E-4, Infantry in the Korean War. He received the Korean Service Medal with a Bronze Camp Star; Combat Infantry Badge; National Defense Service Medal and UN Service Medal.

He married his high school sweetheart, Pearl (McNally) Walker in 1955 (his family still has copies of love letters sent to Pearl from South Korea). He worked 33 years at Philips Elmet as a CNC Machinist.

In his younger years, he was an active hunter, fisherman, and active on the CB radio with the handle of “Bush popper” (because he could often be found out in the woods hunting). He also shared a love of horseback riding and adored his quarter horse, Joe.

He was a strong man who often would “lend a neighbor a helping hand.” One of his favorite sayings was “A Man is as Good as his Word.”

Cliff enjoyed jogging and ran up to 3-5 miles a day until 2011 when he was approximately 79 and diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. After his diagnosis, Cliff kept an active life riding his three-wheel bicycle with his grandchildren. In 2023, he was diagnosed with Osteomyelitis. He fought a hard battle with this disease until his death.

Cliff is survived by his loving son, Clint Walker and his wife Alice of Missoula, Mont., daughter, Ginger Girard and her husband Gary of Poland, son, Robbie Walker and his wife Lisa of Poland, son, Christopher Walker of Milton, N.H., and daughter-in-law Rachel Walker of Poland; brother, Milton Walker of Mechanic Falls; several grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his son, Clifford “Rocky” Walker; wife, Pearl C. Walker; sisters Helen Rowe, Marjorie Woodsum, and Arlene Cobb Currier.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Aug. 10 at 5 p.m. at Chandler Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, 26 W. Dwinal St., Mechanic Falls with a time of visitation prior to the service from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Interment will be at Pine Grove Cemetery in Poland.
