The Tri-County 14U baseball team earned its first victory at the 14U Babe Ruth World Series with a 6-2 win over Australia on Sunday in Eagle Pass, Texas.

After Australia took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, Shawn West hit a two-run single in the bottom of the inning to give Tri-County its first lead.

Noah Nash’s RBI single in the top of the third for Australia tied the game at 2-2, but Tucker Hilden put Tri-County back on top with a run in the the bottom half of the inning.

Tri-County pulled away with a three-run fourth. Derrick Trybus doubled home Keegan Day, Finley Cavers scored on a passed ball and West added a run to make it a 6-2 game.

Reliever Ethan Godomsk pitched four innings for Tri-County, allowing no hits, striking out three and walking five. Starter Carter Davis pitched the first three innings, recording four strikeouts, walking three, giving up four hits.

Mikey Gerstenberg started for Australia and allowed two runs on three hits while striking out two and walking two.

Tri-County wraps up pool play on Monday at 5:30 p.m. against Keene, New Hampshire.
