Tri-County’s run for the 14U Babe Ruth World Series title came to an end with a 6-2 loss to Mexico on Tuesday in Eagle Pass, Texas.
The Oxford-based Tri-County squad now enters the consolation bracket to determine the Iron Man Champion.
Jamie Antonio Osorio pitched 5 2/3 innings for Mexico, striking out 10, walking one, and allowed three hits. Santiago Montanez led the offense with three hits.
Mexico’s Luciano Bellazetin tripled to bring home a run and open the scoring, and Juan Pablo Castaneda doubled home another run for Mexico. A sacrifice fly and a run on an error stretched Mexico’s lead to 4-0 in the first inning.
Tri-County’s first run came in the bottom of the second when Nolan Cavers scored on Finley Cavers’ groundout, cutting the deficit to 4-1.
Mexico got the run back in the top of the third on a fielder’s choice, and another scored on an error in the top of the fifth to build the lead to 6-1.
Derrik Trybus singled home Finley Cavers for Tri-County’s second run in the bottom of the fifth.
Tri-County, which is now 2–2 at the World Series, loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth, but Mexico shut down the threat.
Trybus pitched six innings of relief for Tri-County. He allowed three hits and two runs while striking out two and walking five.
Tri-County’s next game will be Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. against the loser of Tuesday’s matchup between Keene, New Hampshire, and Eagle Pass, Texas. Tri-County defeated Keene 20-4 in five innings on Monday.
