Tri-County’s run at the Babe Ruth 14U World Series ended Thursday with an 8-2 loss to Aruba in the semifinals of the consolation bracket in Eagle Pass, Texas.
Tri-County, based in Oxford, went 3-3 during the tournament.
Arbua’s Edelmar Croes did a little bit of everything for the winners. At the plate, he was a home run shy of the cycle and drove in three runs. On the mound, he threw five innings and allowed one run on five hits while striking out two,and walking one.
After scoring a run in the to of the first inning, Aruba had a four-run second, when Croes and Jethsen Dirkz each had RBI doubles.
Theyon Kock belted an RBI double in the top of the third to boost Aruba’s lead to 6-0. Nathaniel Riley had a solo homer in the top of the seventh, while Dishan Roga added a sac fly.
Nolan Cavers drove in both runs for Tri-County, an RBI single in the bottom of the third and a sac fly in the bottom of the sixth. Cavers and Ethan Godomsky each had two hits.
Godomsky pitched the first three innings, allowing six runs on seven hits while striking out five and walking two. Keegan Day came in relief, allowing three hits and two runs over four innings while having striking out three and walking three.
